DPS Blog – Week of 12 January
This week was meant to be the start of my placement, and instead it became one of the most emotionally intense and eye-opening weeks of my DPS so far.
Back in November, I had what I believed was a confirmed placement working with set designers for Spotify. At the time, I felt relieved and excited knowing I had something secured for January, and I mentally planned everything around that start date. However, the original contact had been made through my uncle, meaning I hadn’t properly established a direct professional relationship myself something I didn’t fully consider until this week.
As January approached and things felt increasingly quiet, I started to feel uneasy. I realised how common change is within the creative industries and how quickly plans can shift. This was a moment where panic definitely set in. I decided it was important to reach out directly and take responsibility for the connection myself, rather than relying on someone else. At the same time, I began to worry about what would happen if the placement didn’t go ahead.
